- Use when optimizing GSAP animation, reducing jank, handling FPS/60fps issues, or reviewing whether motion creates excessive layout/paint cost.
- Prefer animating transform and opacity: x, y, scale, rotation, skew, and opacity usually stay on the compositor; avoid width, height, top, left, margin, and padding when possible.
- Use will-change only on elements that actually animate; do not add will-change or force3D globally or just in case.
- For many similar elements, use stagger instead of many separate tweens with manual delays; for long lists, animate visible items only or consider virtualization.
- Use gsap.quickTo() for frequently updated properties such as mouse followers, reusing a tween instead of creating a new tween on every event.
- For ScrollTrigger performance, pin only what is necessary, use small numeric scrub values for smoother catch-up, and call ScrollTrigger.refresh() only after real layout changes, debounced when needed.
- Reduce simultaneous work; pause or kill tweens, timelines, and ScrollTriggers when the page changes, components unmount, or elements become inactive/off-screen.
